In the wake of the death of former 49ers general manager Trent Baalke, there’s been an unprecedented amount of speculation on whether the Nines would pursue the idea of trading Baalke and signing former Lions coach Jim Schwartz to a new contract.
Schwartz has not been traded.
The Niners are not actively shopping Schwartz and are instead looking for a new coach.
The NFL has not made a decision on whether to suspend the 49ers for the remainder of the season.
What is being considered by the Niner brass is a potential trade to bolster the roster.
The league has not said who they would like to acquire in this trade, but the San Francisco Chronicle reported that they are looking to get a cornerback, linebacker and tight end.
The 49ers also would like a linebacker and offensive tackle, but those three positions have not been addressed in the Baalke trade.
The Browns would like an offensive lineman and quarterback, but none of those are available.
There are other needs.
The Ravens would like two wide receivers, one tight end and two quarterbacks.
The Jets would like cornerback Dee Milliner and an offensive tackle.
The Titans would like defensive end Joey Bosa and a linebacker.
The Texans would like linebackers Brandon Marshall and Kevin Vickerson.
The Panthers would like running back Jonathan Stewart and a cornerback.
The Rams would like quarterback Josh McCown, linebacker Brian Quick and tight ends Jared Cook and Owen Daniels.
The Bills would like tight end Charles Clay, safety T.J. McDonald and a quarterback.
The Raiders are looking for defensive tackle Darnell Dockett and linebacker Khalil Mack.
The Redskins are looking at linebacker Josh LeRibeus and a receiver.
The Cowboys would like linebacker Anthony Barr and a running back.
The Giants would like wide receiver Odell Beckham, linebacker Michael Bennett, safety Brandon Meriweather and defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul.
The Seahawks are looking in the draft for a cornerback and running back and are also looking at linebackers Shaquil Barrett and Brandon Boykin.
The Colts would like offensive linemen Andrew Whitworth and Ryan Kelly and defensive tackle Tamba Hali.
The Bengals are looking into running backs, safety J.R. Sweezy and defensive tackles Trent Williams and Joe Vellano.
The Dolphins would like safety Harrison Smith and offensive lineman Joe Thomas.
The Patriots would like three wide receivers: tight end Jace Amaro, receiver Michael Floyd and running backs DeAndre Hopkins and Lamar Miller.
The Bears would like cornerbacks Stephon Tuitt and Justin Gilbert and linebacker Josh Jackson.
The Saints would like guard/tackle Nate Solder and wide receivers Kenny Stills and Chris Hogan.
The Eagles would like the Giants’ second-round pick in the 2016 draft and wide receiver Torrey Smith.
The Steelers are looking around at wide receiver Markus Wheaton, defensive end Aaron Donald and runningback DeAngelo Williams.
The Chargers are looking out for linebackers Joey Bostic and Ryan Shazier and runningbacks Danny Woodhead and Melvin Gordon.
The Buccaneers would like quarterbacks Mike Glennon and Josh McCray.
The Chiefs would like inside linebackers Tamba Faubert and Anthony Barr.
The Vikings would like receiver Kevin White and a defensive tackle.
Free agency is the time to make a trade.
It’s not the time for a blockbuster, and if you’re trying to keep a franchise in the playoff hunt, a player you don’t have is often a good thing.
But if you dont, you dont want to make your team better.
In the past, there has been some chatter about a trade involving a quarterback and running game.
The Detroit Lions are one of several teams interested in bringing in former Cleveland Browns quarterback Josh Freeman.
It seems unlikely that the 49er would trade Baalke or Schwartz, who would bring the Lions a ton of talent in return.
But a trade to bring in Schwartz, Baalkes successor, or Schwartz and Baalke would be a nice addition to the 49ERS roster.
If the 49ER moves on from Baalke after the season, it could be a trade that gets done.
It would be nice if it was that simple.
But, of course, if the 49S couldnt find a quarterback, it would be another reason to be excited about this season.
The current roster is not a great place to be, but there is enough talent in the secondary to get things done in the playoffs.
The most important player on the roster right now is defensive end Robert Ayers, who is recovering from offseason knee surgery.
Ayers has been working with new 49ers defensive coordinator Vance Joseph.
Joseph is a former defensive coordinator with the Cincinnati Bengals.
He has a reputation for being one of the best in the business.
He also is a good friend of 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.
In 2012, Kaepernick was a guest speaker at the Josephs annual Super Bowl party.
The theme for the event was Carry The Weight of the Super Bowl to Your Family.
The event was organized by 49ers President Jed York and his wife
