The sports broadcast on radio in India has gone up by 10 times in a row since 2010, the Times of Indian reported.
In the last decade, sports broadcasters have recorded their best ever ratings, the newspaper said.
The most recent ratings of the Indian cricket board, which runs the national game, was released on Wednesday.
The board’s popularity in India is also growing as the country has become more urbanised, it added.
The sports broadcasts of the Times are the most popular in the country.
The daily newspaper’s sports section covers cricket, cricket, boxing, basketball, football and volleyball.
Sports broadcaster Rupani, who is known for her controversial views, has been banned by the Indian Cricket Association (ICA) from playing cricket.
The broadcaster has been suspended for 15 days.
Rupane is also under pressure from the Indian media over the issue of female cricketers.
The ICC has called on India to stop interfering in the affairs of sport.
